Coach and Trainer Work - Health

What is coaching?

Coaching is about developing healthy patterns to deal with challenges, problems and stress in daily life. These healthy patterns are already stored in us, but are sometimes not accessible due to obstacles in our thoughts and feelings. In a coaching trajectory you gain insight into your thoughts, feelings, actions and your needs. You get to know yourself (even) better. It is a development towards new possibilities and skills to respond to difficult situations. You apply these between the coaching sessions, so that the new patterns become your own.

Coaching

You don't have to be sick to get better

(Eric Berne, founder of Transactional Analysis )

Who is it for?

My coaching focuses on the work-health balance. People who experience misunderstandings, lack of understanding, dilemmas, stress, health complaints or problems at work can come to me. Signs of imbalance can vary from - among other things - poor sleep, irritability and headaches, to losing overview, heart palpitations and causing accidents. It is possible that complaints of chronic conditions have increased. Perhaps colleagues or the manager have expressed their concerns or irritations. Often it is also the people at home who notice changes first. The signals are the messengers of imbalance, a sign that we have something to do or not to do. When your balance has been disturbed for too long or too much, it is important to sound the alarm.

What does it yield?

The coaching process restores and improves your balance. Coaching frees you from obstructive thoughts and the 'automatic' reactions that you once learned and that helped at the time, but have been in the way lately. True to your inner self and the values that are important to you, you make choices that suit you, in good connection with others. That has a positive effect on your well-being and relationships. At work you have more fun and you are in shape again or better. And for the long term you have possibilities and skills to remain sustainably balanced.

Know yourself, be yourself

(after the ancient Greeks and Eric Berne)

Method

The starting point is an introductory meeting in which we work on your issue, so that you gain experience with my way of working. We discuss the situation in relation to the problems you experience. You determine your goals for the coaching process, in which I help to clarify these. When the goals are clear, the actions required for this - during the coaching and outside - can be mapped out.

After the introductory meeting – and a night’s sleep – we will decide whether we will work together. Follow-up meetings vary from 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the issue. Sometimes a short reflection will suffice. For deepening or practicing new behavioral patterns, more time is needed. If the sessions take place live, then that is in The Hague. You can also opt for online – or telephone (walking) sessions. Mail contact (e-coaching) is another option.

During the sessions I listen, ask questions and answer your questions. If I see reactions or beliefs that are not helpful, I will give them back to you in a friendly way. I provide information and insights from a broad perspective on the balance between carrying capacity and carrying load. We discuss the options and what you need to put them into practice. I help you to clarify difficult situations by drawing them using models from Transactional Analysis (TA), a psychological theory about personality and communication. Sometimes we practice a different way of responding to a situation. To enable your development outside the sessions, I provide exercises, information material and homework. We evaluate based on the goals set in advance, both during the sessions and at the end of the coaching trajectory.

Transactional Analysis (TA) model

One of the most well-known concepts in TA is the Parent-Adult-Child model (ego states). The 'Parent' in us represents how it was when we were little. The 'Child' indicates how we used to think, feel and act. Our 'Adult' reacts to what is happening in the here and now. Sometimes we listen mainly to our Parent and Child messages, which leads to unhealthy reactions in the here and now.

For referrers and employers

Based on the introductory meeting, I draw up a coaching plan and quote, which the employer agrees to. The coaching process starts after both the client and the employer have agreed. The coaching sessions are confidential. If the management is involved, any feedback (verbal or written on request) will only take place in consultation with the client. One option is to periodically schedule a 3-way meeting with the manager, so that he or she can provide input and receive tools to support the client's process.

Experiences

I experienced the coaching conversations with Carine as very educational and pleasant. She has a nice personality and she has all the attention for you. Carine holds up a mirror to you and with her way of coaching she lets you come to insights in your own way and at your own pace.

January 2024

Carine helped me to look inside myself and discover new ways to face and overcome challenges. She introduced me to models for communication and conflict resolution that I had not previously received and which, in understanding and reflecting, have enabled me to make great strides in my communication on a personal and professional level.

Carine has helped me a lot in the past year to bring my carrying capacity and carrying load back into balance, with attention and recommendations for work and private life. And with every conversation she gave me surprising insights and good tips.
